Distribution of 100,000 PPE and syringes to the devastated hospitals in Beirut

Amid the ongoing novel coronavirus, the René Moawad Foundation distributed 100,000 items of personal protective equipment PPE (including different types of masks, face shield, gloves, shoe covers, bouffant caps) and syringes in partnership with Project Hope to the 4 devastated hospitals and Non-governmental organizations in Beirut in addition to 4 hospitals & dispensaries in the North of Lebanon, to ensure the protection of the Health Care Heroes who are battling COVID-19 on the frontline.
“After Beirut blast and through the partnership with René Moawad Foundation, we managed to reach a lot of beneficiaries in hospitals and primary healthcare centers in Beirut and in the North of Lebanon. We are hoping to serve more beneficiaries throughout Lebanon”, Diana Ohanian, Program manager at Project Hope affirmed.

An Awareness Campaign to Help Prevent Against COVID-19 in Tripoli, North Lebanon

A group of students benefiting from the UNICEF funded project “Supporting vulnerable girls
and boys with learning, soft and hard skills and employability programs in the North” led an
awareness campaign about COVID-19 in collaboration with Tripoli Municipality, in Beb al
Tebbeneh. The number of daily COVID-19 cases registered in Beb al Tebbeneh has increased
dramatically in recent days.
The students distributed masks and flyers to the shop owners and residents of the area.
The students did a remarkable mission in raising awareness and explaining the precautions that
owners should take in their shops to stop spreading the virus. They promoted preventive
measures like frequent hand washing and wearing masks.
“During the awareness campaign, we realized that we need to take the coronavirus seriously’’, a
shop owner stated.
RMF team members and students expressed: “We strongly communicated to Beb al Tebbeneh
residents to stop shaking hands, kissing, and hugging for their own safety and the safety of their
family members and the wider community to fight the spread of the global pandemic’’.
Together we shall prevail.

Un Cuore Si Scioglie donated 25 thousand Euros for psychosocial support

The Foundation Un cuore si Scioglie allocated 25 thousand euros for the René Moawad Foundation to provide psychosocial support to traumatized children and families, as well as educational help to students who had to drop out of school after Beirut explosion.
The foundation announced that during a press conference in solidarity with the Lebanese population. An impressive message was broadcasted during the conference from Rene Moawad Moawad Foundation which marked the partnership with Un cuore si Scioglie and ARCI, along with the humanitarian interventions towards the affected communities of Beirut.
The Foundation Un cuore si Scioglie was established in 2010 with the commitment of the Unicoop Firenze member sections to stand by people in need, which for years had been carrying out solidarity and fundraising initiatives.
ARCI International was established in 1957 in Florence as an organization for the defense and development of people’s homes and recreational clubs.

More than 700 needs assessments identified in Beirut

As one of René Moawad foundation’s main Beirut Emergency Relief objectives, damage assessment in all domains are being conducted consistently since the devastating day of the Beirut Blast. Dedicated experts and team members are identifying in our established tent located in Beirut the needs: Rehabilitation, infrastructure reconstruction, psychosocial support, livelihood needs, medical care and shelter. Thus far, over 700 applications have been submitted. As a response to such a heavy load, RMF has been and will continue to progressively and systematically provide aid.

Hot meals initiative in the North of Lebanon

As the general state of Lebanon continues to progressively decline due to the COVID-19 pandemic and economic crisis, people all across are now lacking simple necessities, such as nutritious food. Therefore, RMF in partnership with UNICEF has been leading a ‘Hot Meals’ initiative, where we are distributing 94,200 hot meals with a salad and dessert for a duration of 157 days to vulnerable families residing in the North of Lebanon.

Energy Assistance France and Rene Moawad Foundation visiting the damaged hospitals and schools in Beirut

Rene Moawad Foundation and Energy Assistance France visited Karantina public Hospital and Ecole Notre Dame de Nazareth in Achrafieh to detect the damages of Beirut blast.
During the tour, needs were identified at the destroyed Assameh Birth and Beyond Pediatric Unit in Karantina Hospital which treats premature babies and new born who require critical care. The new building needs more than two million and half dollars to be functional next year. Energy Assistance France has proposed to install a photovoltaic power plant to save electricity.
On the other side, Nazareth school is facing the challenge to fund the restoration of the damaged classrooms before the beginning of the new scholar year. The students won’t be able to attend their classes before securing the building and restoring the shattered glasses of doors and windows.
Energy Assistance France (EAF) is a French Non-Profit association created in 2005. It belongs to a network with EA Belgium, EA Monaco and EA Italy. Its members are employees or retired employees of ENGIE Group. Its mission consists in providing access to energy to people who have a limited access or no access at all to essential energetic services on all continents. It carries out electrification projects by photovoltaic installations in three areas: Health, Education and local Economic Growth by encouraging income generating activities. EAF also responds after major events (natural disasters, accidents) to restore access to energy.

RMF distributed 8 tons of flour in Beirut

Amid nationwide crisis, The Rene Moawad foundation recently received a donation of 8 tons of cooking flour from The French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs’ Crisis and Support Centre. As Lebanon unfortunately reaches a record low, even basic ingredients have become difficult to attain. Therefore, as we continue in our mission to help rebuilt and restore Beirut following the devastating blast, we will be distributing a portion of the flour to 250 affected families. Whereas the rest will be donated to small and medium size bakeries located in the most damaged streets of East Beirut. This particular initiative will both provide many with basic nutrients and help boost foot traffic activity and income generation, because businesses will have enough ingredients to resume the baking and selling of goods.

Providing emergency health kits in partnership with project HOPE

The Rene Moawad Foundation in partnership with project HOPE is providing basic health care for the affected populations of Beirut blast. Project HOPE secured a large sum of essential medicines and medical supplies to sustain around 10,000 people for the coming 3 months. RMF will be distributing health kit to affected persons and health facilities across Beirut. Team members have been mobilized on the ground directly responding to all needs.

LAUNCHING OF A USAID FUNDED COMMUNITY SUPPORT PROGRAM

The René Moawad Foundation started the implementation of an emergency response activity launched by the USAID- funded Community Support Program to help with the clearing of rubble and debris from the most heavily impacted neighbourhoods of East Beirut. The activity is helping to quicken the districts’ restoration, along with providing work opportunities to residents affected by the Beirut blast and the economic crisis. Temporary workers were also hired to aid in the clean-up effort, after undergoing training on how to safely remove and dispose of the recyclable glass and other rubble.

DAY 1 OF INTERVENTION: FOOD PARCELS AND HYGIENE KITS

Our emergency response started immediately to alleviate damage caused by the explosion in
Beirut. The second day after the blast, over 30 wholehearted RMF staff and volunteers in
collaboration with ‘Lebanon of Tomorrow’ NGO walked the demolished streets of Gemmayze-
Mar-Mikhael and Karantina in Beirut distributing food parcels and hygiene kits to over 100
families. The team tried to assess the needs of the survivors, to ensure them with the basic tools
to sustain personal health and safety. Furthermore, RMF is providing ongoing livelihood
assistance, such as food and hygiene kits, cash aid, hot meals and other necessities.
